Jack A. Fusco
Executive Chairman

Jack A. Fusco, who served as Chief Executive Officer of Calpine from August 2008 to May 2014 and has been a member of the Board of Directors since August 2008, became Executive Chairman of Calpine’s Board of Directors in May 2014. As Executive Chairman, he focuses on corporate strategy including capital allocation efforts to maximize shareholder returns, and advocating for fair and competitive power markets and responsible environmental regulation. Mr. Fusco received recognition as Best CEO in the electric industry by Institutional Investor in 2012 as ranked by all industry analysts and for Best Investor Relations by a CEO or Chairman among all mid-cap companies by IR Magazine in 2013. Prior to joining Calpine, Mr. Fusco served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Texas Genco LLC, an independent power company (IPP), from July 2004 to February 2006 when it was sold through a merger. From 2002 until July 2004, Mr. Fusco was an exclusive energy investment advisor for the private equity firm Texas Pacific Group, which became an investor in Texas Genco. From November 1998 until February 2002, Mr. Fusco served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Orion Power Holdings, Inc., an IPP that he helped found. Previously, Mr. Fusco was Vice President at Goldman Sachs Power, an affiliate of Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he focused on wholesale electric commodity trading and marketing. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Mr. Fusco was employed by Pacific Gas & Electric Company or its affiliates in various engineering and management roles for approximately 13 years. Mr. Fusco, who started his career as an operator at power plants in California, has over 30 years of experience in the power industry. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Sacramento.


Thad Hill
President and Chief Executive Officer

Thad Hill became Calpine’s President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of its Board of Directors in May 2014. Mr. Hill joined the company in September 2008 as Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. He became Chief Operating Officer in October 2010 and was named President in December 2012. Prior to Calpine, Mr. Hill was with NRG Energy from 2006 to 2008, serving as President of NRG Texas in 2007- 2008. Prior to NRG, Mr. Hill was Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Texas Genco LP from 2005 to 2006. From 1995 to 2005, he was with Boston Consulting Group Inc., where he rose to Partner and Managing Director and led the North American energy practice, serving companies in the power and gas sector with a focus on commercial and strategic issues. Mr. Hill received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University magna cum laude and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Amos Tuck School of Dartmouth College, where he was elected an Edward Tuck Scholar.


W. Thaddeus Miller
Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary

W. Thaddeus Miller joined Calpine Corporation in August 2008 as Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary. Mr. Miller brings almost 30 years of legal experience to Calpine, the last 20 years of which have been in the energy industry. He recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Texas Genco Inc. until 2006. From 2002 to 2004, Mr. Miller was a consultant to Texas Pacific Group, a private equity firm. From 1998 to 2002, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Orion Power, an independent power producer. From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Miller was Vice President of Goldman Sachs & Co., where he focused on wholesale electric and other energy commodity trading. Before joining Goldman Sachs & Co., Mr. Miller was a partner in a New York law firm. Mr. Miller earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and his Juris Doctor from St. John's School of Law. In addition, he was an officer in the United States Coast Guard.


Zamir Rauf
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Zamir Rauf has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since December 2008. Mr. Rauf previously was interim Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer from June 2008 to December 2008. Prior to his role as Interim CFO, Mr. Rauf was Senior Vice President, Finance and Treasurer at Calpine. In that position, he had responsibility for Calpine's corporate and project finance, treasury and debt compliance functions and managed the corporate banking, investment banking and rating agency relationships. Prior to Calpine, Mr. Rauf held various accounting and finance roles with Enron North America and Dynegy Inc., as well as Comerica Bank in both credit and lending roles. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in business and commerce and master's degree in business administration-finance from the University of Houston.


Steven D. Pruett
Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer

Steven D. Pruett has been Chief Commercial Officer since May 2014 and Executive Vice President since January 1, 2014. He has led our Commercial Operations team since joining Calpine in June 2011 and previously served as Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations. From 1997-2006, Steve was at Goldman Sachs, first as a Vice President then as a Managing Director; from 1997-2001 he helped launch and then run trading at Constellation Power Source, as a joint venture between Goldman Sachs and Baltimore Gas & Electric, until Goldman liquidated the joint venture; he then launched and led Goldman Sachs’ power trading unit until retiring in 2006. In 1995-96, Steve set up and managed trading operations for Cinergy (now Duke Energy). Steve began his career at PSI Energy, where he worked from 1978-1994 in positions of increasing responsibility, including management of wholesale power market transactions. He holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Indiana State University.


John Adams
Executive Vice President, Power Operations

John Adams has served as Executive Vice President of Power Operations for Calpine since January 1, 2014. He had previously been Senior Vice President for Power Operations beginning in April 2010. He has over 29 years of experience in the power and industrial equipment industries, including a number of senior executive-level roles in operations management, corporate start-up and business turnaround activities. Prior to joining Calpine, Mr. Adams worked at Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc., where he served as Senior Vice President of Operations from 2006 to 2010 and Vice President of Sales and Marketing from 2002 to 2006. At Mitsubishi, which designs and manufactures power generation equipment including combined cycle gas turbines, Mr. Adams had direct management responsibility for sales and marketing, engineering, project management, construction, commissioning and cost control. From 1987-2003, he worked for Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation in a variety of leadership roles including Vice President, Project Operations; Vice President, Commercial Operations, and Vice President, HRSG and Industrial Products. Mr. Adams holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas.


Hether Benjamin Brown
Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer

Hether Benjamin Brown has served as Calpine’s Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer since May 2014. In this role, she oversees the company’s Human Resources, Information Technology and Facilities functions. Ms. Benjamin Brown previously served as Calpine’s Senior Vice President of Human Resources beginning in February 2012. In this role, she led staffing and talent acquisition, organizational development, and compensation and benefits. She joined Calpine in May 2009 as Vice President of Supply Chain Services, and in that position she transformed and centralized Calpine’s supply chain function to improve efficiency, lower costs and leverage the company’s size and scale nationally. Prior to joining Calpine, she was Director of Supply Chain Management for the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Previously, Ms. Benjamin Brown served in leadership roles of increasing responsibility at other public- and private-sector organizations in the aerospace/defense, environmental/waste and information technology industries. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Business Administration from Texas Women’s University.


Jim Deidiker
Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer

Jim D. Deidiker serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer. He has been with Calpine since January 2009. Previously, Mr. Deidiker served as Vice President and Controller at Texas Genco. Prior to that, he was Managing Director and Vice President, Administration at AEP Energy Services, Inc., and also held accounting and financial positions at Basis Petroleum, Inc., Enron Corporation and UPG Falco, Inc. In addition, he worked as a research assistant and lecturer at Texas A&M University. Mr. Deidiker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Southwest Missouri State University and a master’s degree in business administration-finance from the University of Houston. He also completed research and coursework toward a doctoral degree in accounting from Texas A&M University. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Texas and a Certified Management Accountant.


Alex Makler
Senior Vice President, West Region

Alex Makler has served as Senior Vice President of our West Region since May 2014. In this role, he leads origination, development and strategy for the West Region, including working closely with our Government and Regulatory Affairs team on market reform and other initiatives. Previously, Mr. Makler served as Calpine’s Vice President of Strategic Origination and Development for our West Region from January 2009 to May 2014 and as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel in the company’s legal department, where he began working in 1999. While in the legal group, Mr. Makler served as Calpine’s lead attorney for California energy crisis matters. He has a background in commercial transactions, project financing, federal and state regulatory activities, legislative issues, mergers and acquisitions, and all aspects of electric generation development. Prior to Calpine, Mr. Makler practiced commercial law with major law firms in New York, Houston and San Francisco. He earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Economy and a Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley.


Kevin G. McMahon
Senior Vice President, Internal Audit and Chief Compliance Officer

Kevin G. McMahon serves as Senior Vice President, Internal Audit and Chief Compliance Officer. He joined Calpine in May 2006 to lead the Internal Audit function and took on the added role of Chief Compliance Officer in August 2009. Mr. McMahon is responsible for managing and conducting all internal audit activities, supporting operations and the functional departments as requested, managing the Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance oversight program, leading records management activities and reporting audit findings with the appropriate recommendations to senior management and the Audit Committee. In addition, he oversees the company’s regulatory compliance efforts with particular emphasis on ensuring that proper procedures are in place to help the company meet all FERC and NERC regulatory requirements. Prior to joining Calpine, he was Vice President and General Auditor for Exide Technologies, a global manufacturer of stored electrical energy products and services for industrial and transportation applications. He previously served as Vice President-Internal Audit Services and in other senior auditing positions for HCA, Inc., the largest hospital provider in the United States, and served in senior management and auditing positions for Ernst & Young LLP, Southern Company Services, FPL Group and HSBC/Marine Midland Bank N.A. Mr. McMahon has a Master of Business Administration degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the State University of New York. He is both a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA).


Sarah Novosel
Senior Vice President, Government Affairs

Sarah Novosel is Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Managing Counsel in Calpine's Washington, D.C. office. Ms. Novosel manages Calpine's Washington, D.C. office and directs its federal legislative and regulatory practice. Ms. Novosel has been practicing energy law for more than 15 years. She began her career in 1991 with the law firm of Bracewell & Patterson in Washington, D.C., where she represented natural gas and power marketing clients. After leaving Bracewell & Patterson in 1997, Ms. Novosel joined Enron Corp. and later worked for American Electric Power. She joined Calpine in 2004 as Senior Regulatory Counsel and was promoted in 2007 to her present position. A graduate of the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in Government and Politics, Ms. Novosel earned her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. She is a member of the Maryland State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar and the Energy Bar Association.


Andrew Novotny
Senior Vice President, Trading

Andrew Novotny has served as Calpine’s Senior Vice President of Trading since May 2014. In this role, he leads the company’s asset portfolio trading team, which includes power and gas trading and logistics across North America. Andrew joined Calpine in April 2012 as Vice President of Power Trading. In this role, he led the Energy Trading Risk Management system team and took on responsibility for the financial trading group in December 2012. In 2013, he oversaw Calpine’s Southeast power trading group and financial gas hedging. Before joining Calpine, Andrew served as Vice President of Financial Gas and Power Trading for the BG Group beginning in 2007. Prior to his time at the BG Group, Andrew was a Vice President with Duke Energy. Andrew received a Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University, graduating magna cum laude with high honors in Economics. He also received a Master of Business Administration from Rice University, where he was named a Jones Scholar.


Joseph E. Ronan Jr.
Senior Advisor, Government and Regulatory Affairs

Joe Ronan has been part of the Calpine leadership team for more than 20 years. He joined the Company in 1992 and served as General Counsel for six years. He then led Calpine’s Government and Regulatory Affairs team as Senior Vice President until January 2014, when he became Senior Advisor. In this role, he continues to actively work on the Company’s government and regulatory initiatives in California. He has previous experience as an attorney with the federal government, the state of Wyoming, Getty Oil Company and in the renewable energy industry. Mr. Ronan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver College of Law. He is a member of the state bars of California and Colorado.


Steven Schleimer
Senior Vice President, Government and Regulatory Affairs

Steven Schleimer has been Calpine’s Senior Vice President for Government and Regulatory Affairs since January 1, 2014. He had previously served as Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs for Calpine’s North Region since 2010. From 2006 to 2010, Mr. Schleimer was Vice President at Barclays Capital in New York and was responsible for market design and regulatory issues. Prior to that, he had served as Calpine’s Vice President of Market and Regulatory Affairs in the West Region from 2000 to 2006. Mr. Schleimer spent the first 12 years of his career at Pacific Gas and Electric Company. He earned a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree, with highest honors, in Economics from the University of California at Santa Cruz.


Caleb Stephenson
Senior Vice President, Commercial Analytics

Caleb Stephenson has served as Calpine’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Analytics since May 2014. In this role, he oversees the company’s analysis of factors affecting the company’s commodity margin performance, including market, regulatory, contractual and operational factors. Mr. Stephenson joined Calpine in October 2008 as Vice President of Commercial Analytics. He came to Calpine from PA Consulting Group’s Global Energy Practice, where he advised merchant power industry participants on energy market outlook and risk management issues. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and social studies from Oral Roberts University and a Master of Business Administration in finance from Washington University.


Todd Thornton
Senior Vice President, Origination and Development

Todd Thornton has served as Calpine’s Senior Vice President of Origination and Development since May 2014. In this role, he leads development and origination activities throughout our central and eastern regions. Previously, Mr. Thornton was appointed to the position of Vice President of Commercial Development in January 2013, responsible for greenfield and brownfield development efforts. From 2009-2013, he served as Vice President, Finance and Treasurer, responsible for corporate and project finance, treasury operations, investment analytics, debt compliance and commercial credit. Mr. Thornton joined Calpine in 2000 through Calpine’s acquisition of SkyGen Energy, where he served in various financial roles. Mr. Thornton earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Northern Illinois University and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
