Hay Road Energy Center

When the first four units were built at Hay Road, the Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Delaware recognized the complex as a technological leader.  Calpine acquired the 1,130-megawatt facility in 2010 as part of its purchase of the Conectiv Energy assets.  This complex is one of the most energy efficient and environmentally responsible facilities in the service territory.  Units at the complex use an advanced dry combustion process to limit the formation of pollutants, thus preserving valuable water resources.  These extremely low emissions fall far below federal and state limits and are among the lowest in the eastern United States.
