Commercial Operations

Calpine’s trade floor staff members make vital, minute-to-minute decisions about Calpine’s business. Some of them dispatch power generated at our plants in real time, others study trends to lock in future prices, focus on day-ahead markets, or secure longer-term sales and hedges. The primary goal is to protect and enhance the expected value of Calpine’s portfolio while delivering value to its customers and ensuring full compliance with all market rules, regulations and laws.

Commercial Analytics

Our commercial analysts provide quantitative insight on market fundamentals, plant gross margin forecasting, dispatch costs, plant performance and transaction pricing. The group supports commercial and plant operations activity throughout the fleet. In addition, the Commercial Information Systems group is part of this team and oversees the applications and information services that enable plant dispatch, trading, settlements and risk management activity.

Origination and Development

Serving as Calpine’s new business development professionals, the Origination and Development team identifies strategic opportunities in each of our regions. This team markets structured products from our existing power plant fleet and develops new projects.
