Los Medanos Energy Center

The Los Medanos Energy Center is a highly efficient, natural gas-fired, combined-cycle cogeneration facility with advanced air emissions control technologies located in Pittsburg, California.  The plant consists of two combustion turbines, two heat recovery steam generators, one steam turbine and one auxiliary boiler.

The Los Medanos Energy Center sells electricity and steam to large neighboring industrial facilities Dow Chemical and USS Posco Inc. and additional power into the California power market.

To provide mutual benefits to the Delta and Los Medanos Energy Centers, the local communities and the local sanitation district, Calpine built a state-of-the-art recycled water facility. The recycled water from wastewater treatment facilities is piped to the energy centers and is demineralized as the water source for steam production.

Calpine entered into Resource Adequacy contracts for the plant with Pacific Gas and Electric and Southern California Edison beginning in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
