Our Safety Management Strategy and Systems

Our corporate culture strongly values personal responsibility in all facets of the business – including safety performance. A few key elements of our safety management strategy and systems include:

  • We regularly benchmark our corporate safety business processes, strategy, systems, standards, organization and performance with our peers.
  • We seek to continuously improve our safety procedures based on practicality, sound judgment and adoption of best available practices that meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
  • We develop and regularly update internal safety standards to ensure that our personnel remain safe and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • We regularly conduct internal and external safety audits of operations using standardized protocols to facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Leading indicators of safety management excellence are incorporated into our performance goals and compensation systems.
  • We monitor and review the safety management systems and performance of our contractors. Safety extends into every aspect of our daily activities across Calpine’s organization. While the corporate safety staff establishes corporate governance and defines best practices, accountability for safety is integrated into all personnel at each power plant and office location. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
