Nearly 500 residents of Vineland, New Jersey, now get their power from the sun through the Vineland Solar partnership between Vineland Municipal Electric Utility, Landis Sewerage Authority and Calpine Corporation.  The solar array, which is one of the largest in New Jersey, is located in the City of Vineland on a reclaimed Landis Sewerage Authority brownfield site.  Calpine manages the 4-megawatt power facility, and Vineland Municipal Electric Utility has agreed to buy all of the energy produced by the solar array to provide a green alternative for its customers.

Customers save $300,000 a year in power costs because of the facility.  Phase one of the project was energized in August of 2009.  Phase two was completed ahead of schedule in December of the same year with both phases producing green energy by the end of 2009.  Calpine acquired Vineland Solar in 2010 as part of its purchase of the Conectiv Energy assets.
